(287b) A Dynamic Ecosystem Approach to Renewable Energy Commercialization

NIREC is a clean energy technology accelerator that commercializes renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. Its experience in developing such technology leads it to believe that progress is greatest where a complex and specific ecosystem is actively created for each innovation. The constraints inherent in renewable energy ecosystems can be eased by diverting public sector funding from research to commercialization activities, by altering incentive structures for researchers within universities and national laboratories and ultimately, by lowering investors' risk perceptions.
