(254f) Evolution of Course and Curriculum Assessment at Ohio University

Author

Developing a comprehensive, integrated system to assess chemical engineering program outcomes can be a difficult and time-consuming process. Maintaining and continuing the assessment system, once it has been developed, can also be problematic. This presentation describes the continuing curriculum and course assessment system currently used by the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Ohio University. This system consists of a set of individual course-level assessments which integrate together to constitute the backbone of a program assessment. Senior exit interviews and periodic surveys of recent graduates and alumni round out the assessment portfolio. Review of this complete package by a "committee of the whole" encourages faculty buy-in and the use of the assessment results in "closing the loop." Evolution of the process through two rounds of ABET visits is described.
