Hydrogen storage materials contain hydrogen higher volume density than compressed gas and liquid hydrogen. Under Japanese national projects, there have been investigated hydride tanks with maximum pressure below 1 MPa (low pressure metal hydride tank) and those with much higher pressure such as15-35 MPa (high pressure metal hydride tank or hybrid tank). For the tank systems to be applied to real applications, not only performances of the system but also safety issues are critical. In this presentation, both performances and safety test of the tanks developed under the national projects will be introduced.
