2008 Annual Meeting

Session: New Approaches In Upstream Bioprocessing: Development and Manufacturing

There are many challenges in the development of successful upstream processes. These include the development of processes that are amenable to scale-up, fundamental understanding of equipment design and operating parameters, as well as effective technology transfer. Compressed timelines pose additional challenges, necessitating efficient and coordinated process development. Topics such as the following are invited: • Novel systems for process development • Multi-product development using a standardized platform approach • Significance and impact of upstream and downstream development on each other • Approaches for scale-up/ technology transfer/ bioreactor design • Use of models for scale-up / scale-down
