Variation of transport coefficients with position complicates the solution of steady and transient convective diffusion problems via spectral methods because accurate computation of eigenvalues and eigenvectors cannot be taken for granted. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the Prufer transformation with respect to both computational speed and accuracy in comparison with Matlab methodology. Example applications are provided.
