Reduction of TOC prior to chlorination is an effective way to control the formation of Disinfection Byproducts (DBP). Use of brine regenerable ion exchange resins for TOC removal is an established and cost effective technology. An increasing need exists to minimize brine discharges to the environment. This presentation explores a multiple reuse strategy for the brine that can also reduce the operating cost for the process.
