(525b) A Career Working For The Process Development Company
Process development is a multi-functional, multi-national, multi-objective career. This presentation describes the career working for a small private process development and consulting firm. Traditional chemical engineering training and skills are needed to perform tasks for the process design, modeling, and experimentation cycles during process development, for example the evaluation of fuel chemical processes or utilization of alternative feedstocks. However new skills must be constantly acquired, for example understanding new chemistries or chemical production from biological feed sources. Creativity and ingenuity are also used to improve the intellectual property positions of clients in their competitive areas as well as to implement the business and marketing strategy of our own company. Usually projects are multi-organizational collaborations, where our members simultaneously meet with chemical companies, engineering & construction companies, other consultants, industry consortiums, universities, etc. for the development of a chemical process. Opportunities for career satisfaction come from a variety of aspects, intellectually, both from technical and business challenges, interactions with a variety of people, and development of your own creative inventions.
