In this study, the effect of impurities on the crystal size distribution (CSD) was investigated for industrial crystallization of borax decahydrate. A continuous mixed-suspension, mixed-product removal (MSMPR) crystallizer was used to determine the main characteristics of crystallization using population balance equation. MSMPR experiments on borax decahydrate crystallization showed that large size particles have higher growth rate than small size particles. In addition, increasing on the retention time in the crystallizer increases the particle size of the crystals. On the other hand, there is a significant effect of the impurities on the crystallization of borax decahydrate.
