Opportunities for Fuels and Chemicals from Coal
Abstract
Oil and natural gas demand, price, availability and national security result in the need to consider alternatives to meet energy resource needs. Coal can be a resource for providing liquid transportation fuels, a feedstock for chemicals production or hydrogen. Technology is available, with commercial plants operating, to produce these fuels and chemicals. Advanced technology is being developed to reduce capital cost, capture carbon emissions, and improve integrated system performance and reliability.
