(358d) Fluctuations in Solutions to the Fragmentation Equation

Ziff, R. - Presenter, University of Michigan
The fragmentation equation can be written in a binary (ternary, etc.) form, or in a more general multiple fragmentation form, in which the daughter-size distribution is general and can allow a situation where in each specific fragmentation event, there can be sometimes two, sometimes three, sometimes four, etc., daughter particles formed. In this talk we will discuss how this difference becomes apparent when one considers not just the solution for the average number of particles, but also in the fluctuations in those particles as a function of time. We will also present further discussion about the conditions on the daughter distribution so that the breakup represents a physical process.
