(206g) Enhancing Problem Solving in Excel and Matlab with Polymath 6.1

POLYMATH 6.1 is a proven computational system that supports efficient problem solving in chemical engineering for educational and professional users. Low-cost educational site licenses are provided through the CACHE Corporation for academic departments. These site licenses enable use in computer labs and distribution of individual copies to all students, faculty, and staff in the academic department. Individual-use educational and professional versions are also available.

Version 6.1 now provides the advanced and UNIQUE capability to automatically export any POLYMATH problem to Excel with a single keypress. Thus problems can be solved completely in Polymath or exported to Excel for solution. A POLYMATH ODE_Solver Add-In is included and allows for the solution of ordinary differential equations in Excel. Automatic problem export from Polymath to Excel includes the conversion of all intrinsic functions and logical variables.

MATLAB users will appreciate POLYMATH's ability to provide a problem solution in a format that can directly be incorporated into “m” files. Polymath automatically translated the problem into ordered equations in MATLAB code. Templates are available that allow easy problem solution in MATLAB that can be very helpful for novice or experiences MATLAB users.

This presentation will highlight some of the more useful characteristics of POLYMATH with real-time demonstration of problem solutions.
