(166a) Future Directions for Membrane Technology in the Pharmaceutical Industry

Membrane technology has played a key role in the Pharmaceutical industry. However, the areas of applications have been limited to the purification of bio-molecules (Ultrafiltration, Microfiltration) and provision of purified water (Reverse Osmosis).

This presentation will highlight the potential of membrane technology in other areas - including purification of small molecules, drug delivery and waste minimization. The presentation will also discuss the potential improvement opportunities for the existing applications and also opportunities to use membranes as part of an integrated purification solution.

The presentation will also highlight the effective ways of developing and implementing these new membrane applications ? partnerships with academia, vendors and other industrial partners being the key.
