The R&D Needed for Oxyfuel/Chemical Looping Combustion

As one of few options to concentrate CO2 from stationary power plants, oxyfuel combustion including chemical looping has gained attraction due to its relative simplification and non-chemical nature. Even though significant investigations have been carried out worldwide and several key milestones have been met, significant hurdles still exist such as oxygen separation, CO2 stream purification, system integration, longevity of oxygen carrier and massive solid recirculation. In this presentation, the current status of development will be reviewed and the need for R&D will be discussed.
