Simulation and Full-Scale Experiments of Tunnel Fire With Openings On Roof

Based on the data of full-scale experiments, the physical model of tunnel and the mathematical model of tunnel fire are built according to CFD theory. The smoke temperature field, smoke concentration field,smoke spread and sedimentation laws are simulated using FLUENT software under the same conditions as full-scale experiments. It’s discerned that the simulated results are almost identical with the data of full-scale experiments. In conclusion, the presented simulation model is applicable for researching the tunnel fire with openings on roof. The feasibility of adopting the natural ventilation in road tunnel is demonstrated, which provides support for adopting natural ventilation in this new type tunnel with vertical shaft in future.
